About

Who am I?

Taprobane is led by Avindra Fernando: principal architect, fractional CTO, and founder, working where AI meets everyday software delivery.

I’ve spent 14+ years building web apps, automating workflows, and mentoring engineers. In 2021 I started Taprobane to help teams modernize their platforms and build software that holds up. Since then we’ve shipped projects across many industries.

I care a lot about architecture, teaching, and doing things well. Through client work, conference talks, and workshops, I’ve taught developers React, Next.js, Playwright, and AI-assisted development.

These days, most questions clients bring are about AI. What to build with it, where it fits in a codebase, and how to adopt it without wrecking quality. That’s the work Taprobane now leads with.

I taught Software Architecture at the University of Kansas as an Industry Lecturer. Teaching keeps you honest. It’s hard to explain an architecture you don’t really understand.

The goal now is simple: help the teams I work with pick the right direction, and build well, faster.

How I work

A few things I believe.

Build, advise, or both

Some clients bring me in to lead the build. Some want a second opinion on direction. Most want both, and the balance shifts as the work does.

AI without the shortcuts

AI makes writing code faster. It doesn't make bad architecture good. The basics matter more than ever.

Stay because you want to

My job is to make myself unnecessary. Clients keep me around for years anyway. That's the best compliment there is.

I teach what I've done

Everything I teach comes from real projects. Real deadlines, real constraints, real mistakes.
